They did the monster mash for Goodwill finds

It was a graveyard smash!

My friend, Merida, had a very spooky Halloween party over the weekend complete with a bloody, murdered-out bathroom and Halloween themed foods such as cockroaches (potato chips dipped in chocolate) and ghost droppings (Boursin cheese). Of course, I waited until the last minute to get my husband and my costumes together. Since it was our first year of marriage, I thought couples costumes were the way to go! I've had good luck with finding a Halloween costume at Goodwill in the past, so I searched online for Goodwill costumes and surprisingly found some interesting and simple ideas!

It turns out, the Goodwill in our area has a new location and a bit of a face lift, so I actually had some fun rummaging around. I was specifically looking for Betty and Barney Rubble costumes in the women's dresses section (for both..haha). And found these two gems.

I texted my husband this picture to get his thoughts and his reply was, "I can roll with that."So I bought them for 8 bucks each.

I cut up the bottom of both "dresses" to make them more Flinstone-like and also frayed the sleeves of Barney's smock. I used the pieces that I had cut out of my dress to make a blue bow that I attached to a headband. I also made a Betty necklace with a black ribbon and white construction paper.
And voila!

Needless to say, I got a good laugh when the hubs put on his outfit. It was a bit snug, but I think it looked pretty authentic :D! We had a great time at the party and hope that we can top our costumes next year!

P.S. I also picked up this beautiful teacup dish at Goodwill for 50 cents. It is the home of my best jewelry. So fun to find second hand -and very cheap- treasures!!
